  • Wet vacs to remove small standing water messes, truck-mounted extractors to treat impacted carpeting & padding with hot water and cleaning agents, portable extractors to clean flooring in high rises/other areas where truck-mounted units aren’t practical, and rotary floor machines to buff/strip finish from vinyl tile or wood flooring

Fast Commercial Water Cleanup in Wilmington Helps Keep Bowling Alley Open

A water spill incident at a Wilmington bowling alley threatened to bring down a community center with a rich history. SERVPRO managed to control the situation and helped it reopen in due time because of the fast action we took after learning about the incident.

The situation seemed like any other straightforward commercial water cleanup case in Wilmington because it did not involve black or grey water that usually requires elaborate decontamination procedures. However, some unique properties of the facility made the otherwise straightforward process of water extraction and cleanup more difficult. Our SERVPRO technicians had to rely on the preparation we had done before arriving at the loss site and improvise along the way.

The main challenge to the cleanup was the wood lanes since overexposure to water or expedited drying could cause imperfections in the wood, thus ruining the experience for bowlers. Wet-vacuuming the floors helped remove the surface water from the floors and bowling lanes. We also used other cleaning procedures such as mild agitation of the floor surfaces and detergents to remove soils and other residues left by the standing water. Setting up drying chambers over the wooden lanes helped manage the drying process, quickening results, and preventing adverse outcomes such as warping or swelling.

Safety was another issue while working to restore the alley because the lanes were extremely slippery when wet. Our SERVPRO technicians use rubber boots, which have a better grip over slippery surfaces compared to other types of footwear. We also plan the loss sites before starting work to ensure cables and hoses that can trip anyone visiting the loss site are moved out of the way. Therefore, we managed to clean the area with no incident.

Water damage incidents in Hockessin, Newport, and Elsmere can present various cleaning challenges. Call SERVPRO of Hockessin / Elsmere at (302) 992-0104 to help clean up and deal with any challenges an incident causes at your property, “Like it never even happened.”

How Can I Get Sewer Waters Out of My Wilmington Store?

3/18/2022 (Permalink)

Pipe Leak You may not get a warning before sewer pipes backup and leak water all over your business floor. Contact SERVPRO for remediation services.

How Can I Get Sewer Waters Out of My Wilmington Store?

Sewer Backups Can Occur at Your Business Premises. SERVPRO Commercial Water Cleanup Specialists Can Help Recover Your Wilmington Business.

Why does sewer backup occur?

Sewer backups occur when there is significant pressure in the waster water mains of your Wilmington business. These can be the result of external forces and come directly from the county wastewater sewer. Alternatively, large amounts of usage or improper maintenance can contribute to a sewer backup. These emergencies can lead to raw sewage entering your premises and may force a temporary closure. SERVPRO technicians are equipped to deal with bio-hazardous substances, including raw sewage, by enacting a process that both clears away the damages as well as restores indoor air quality. In an emergency, our phone lines are available twenty-four hours a day for businesses in need.

Do I need professional cleaning for a sewer backup?

Unsanitary conditions involving sewer water and gases can be dangerous. To ensure your business premises do not pose a threat to staff or customers, you should opt for commercial water cleanup services here in Wilmington. A commercial cleaner has the necessary equipment and expertise to assess the level of harm in property and restore it using advanced equipment like self-priming trash pumps. Usually, SERVPRO commercial teams conduct thorough disinfection of the affected area as well as bring in air filtration devices (AFD) to the property to ensure that sewer gases are restored correctly.

How can I prevent sewer backup?

  • Install a pressure dump in the sewer pipes of your building to avoid costly high-pressure damages
  • Conduct regular professional maintenance of your plumbing to avoid pressure points or loose jointing
  • Identify and isolate potential problem points early to avoid costs further down the line

If your business is facing temporary closure from sewer backup, contact SERVPRO of Hockessin / Elsmere at (302) 992-0104 now.

Why are Drying Goals Important During Wilmington Flood Damage?

2/2/2022 (Permalink)

stacked drying equipment at plant Commercial flooding has met its match with SERVPRO's skilled technicians and vast inventory of drying devices. We can help in Wilmington.

Scoping, Planning and Execution Are Cornerstones of Wilmington Stormwater Mitigation

After a storm or floodwater enters a Wilmington commercial property, it is common knowledge that cleanup needs to happen quickly. However, the burning question most clients want to know is if the business can remain open or how long it needs to stay closed during the mitigation service. Often the answer to the question is in the drying phase.

Commercial flood damage in a Wilmington property usually needs some type of water extraction service. The technicians spend extra time on this step because the more moisture pulled up from floors and behind walls, the less time it takes to dry the structure. This is welcome news to most business owners because in some cases when the floodwater is limited to a small area, it allows the property to remain open. SERVPRO technicians can put up borders and safety tape to ensure foot traffic stays out of the worksite so normal day-to-day operations can continue and the company experiences no downtime from the water damage.

Monitoring Drying

SERVPRO techs inspect the structure's exterior and determine how well the outside conditions are kept out of the building. In a poorly insulated building, humid air entering from the outside may affect the drying process. The techs put up containment to keep the outside atmosphere from affecting the restoration service when needed. The technicians take air readings using moisture meters and probes to measure the floor water vapor content. The technicians can:

  • Use these readings to determine the timeline for drying
  • Adjust as needed by adding drying equipment to stay on track
  • Take readings in undamaged areas to assess the goal/baseline

Our business is to keep our clients in business. We work hard to preserve inventory, products, and capital equipment following a storm-damaging event.

SERVPRO of Hockessin / Elsmere at (302) 992-0104 serves the local Wilmington area with all kinds of professional water and commercial flood damage cleanup. The trained, certified technicians are ready to work for property owners 24/7.

Cleaning Up Soot After a Fire in a Hockessin Office Building

10/22/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO trailer with a wall of equipment Commercial fire damage restoration is no easy task. SERVPRO uses the latest technology and equipment for every disaster.

Smoke remediation in Hockessin properties involves several trusted methods of soot cleanup and removal.

Smoke and fire damage is threatening situations for area businesses and can be so bad that some offices never reopen. We understand the urgency and importance of thorough cleaning and restoration, and we are available when disaster strikes to get mitigation started.

Fire Debris Removal and Inspection

No fire damage restoration in Hockessin offices or commercial structures can occur without effectively overcoming pressing concerns like fire debris. Heaps of charred remnants amplify odors and soot damage, so we provide a thorough inspection to earmark where cleaning and restoration are needed most, as well as:

Surface Cleaning for Building Materials

Surface cleaning of specific building materials and structural elements is a vital process, as this is where much of the soot and smoke deposits are present. High heat fires force soot against vertical surfaces, which must be cleaned using a combination of dry cleaning strategies with chem sponges and wet cleaning options using alkaline cleaners and solvents.

Content and Furniture Cleaning

As fire damage spreads through the structure, more and more of the contents, furniture, and electronics can become impacted by these migrating conditions. Soot under pressure can force its way into cracks and crevices, making focused cleaning and restoration vital for the things that matter most in the building. We can even provide off-site cleaning for concentrated attention.

Fire damages are among the most threatening emergencies that any business or office space can endure. One of the chief concerns for fire and smoke damage removal is addressing soot deposits throughout the facility. Our SERVPRO of Hockessin / Elsmere team can provide efficient surface cleaning and aggressive restoration tactics to make fire losses "Like it never even happened." Call today at (302) 992-0104.

When Is Flooring Replacement Necessary After Water Damage in Wilmington Businesses?

10/5/2021 (Permalink)

Water damage in office space When water damage affects your commercial building, SERVPRO techs are ready to help at a moment's notice. Call now.

While demolition is avoided when possible, our SERVPRO team can help with the repairs Wilmington properties need.

The necessary actions to restore and recover a damaged shop or restaurant after a water loss is not the same from one site to the next. Mitigation is not always effective enough to entirely prevent needs like tear-out and repairs. With a general contractor license, we will provide build-back needs as well as mitigation strategies for your business.

Extraction and Drying Measures

Before water damage repair in Wilmington shops can begin, extraction and drying must get underway. Preventing absorption and subsequent material deterioration is critical in the mitigation process. We arrive with several tools to help manage surface water and dry, exposed elements when possible. Standing water concerns can especially impact flooring.

Controlled Demolition and Assessment

When professionals determine that flooring materials are too severely damaged to preserve, the solution is controlled demolition. Removing affected planks and the carpet layer of various flooring styles provides access to underlying materials in layers beneath that might also require drying and restoration treatment. Fast demolition can protect:

  • Underlayment
  • Padding
  • Subflooring

Reinstalling Flooring Materials in the Building

With the underlying materials exposed or discarded if substantial damages occur, our professionals can call upon our general contractor license to provide construction services. We carefully match newly installed pieces to undisturbed portions of the floor for a seamless look “Like it never even happened.”

Because flooring can be so heavily damaged by pooling water, repairs and reconstruction are sometimes inevitable. Our SERVPRO of Hockessin / Elsmere team can help with fast mitigation and restoration services to clean and dry exposed structural elements as quickly as possible. You can reach our team 24/7 by calling (302) 992-0104.

SERVPRO Provides Specialized Services to Match the Loss after Large or Small Fires in Wilmington

Wilmington is a city with a rich history stretching as far back as the 1600s when a Swedish Warship, Kalmar Nyckel, landed on a natural wharf on the Christina River. At the time, the river was known as Minquas Kill. The location where Wilmington stands today was known as Fort Christina and was the center of the New Sweden colony established by the settlers. The purpose of the colony was to produce furs and Tobacco to avoid reliance on English and French merchants.

Wilmington's Swedish origins have had a significant impact on the American way of life, even beyond the former colony's confines. For instance, the log cabin type of house was an idea from Sweden, which later became a popular style for first homes in the frontier areas.  In later years, log cabins are great for vacation homes or other luxurious purposes. The New Sweden colony also brought some of the earliest Lutheran believers to America.

The city has advanced in many ways since its establishment in 1832. For instance, the Du Pont Company, which is an industry leader in the production of chemical and healthcare products all over the world, started in the area when one of the sons of Pierre Samuel du Pont, an immigrant from France, set up a gunpowder mill on the banks of Brandywine Creek. The Du Pont Company later diversified to other sectors.  Apart from being a big company within the city, Du Pont is also famous for developing unique compounds such as Teflon, Nylon, and Kevlar, which have widespread uses. The city is also renowned as the Corporate Capital of the World because over half of fortune 500 companies have operations here.

A Diverse Dining Culture

Away from scientific developments and corporate business, there is a lighter side to Wilmington, especially when you consider its diverse culinary scene. For instance, there are several raw bar and crab shacks in the city. Specialty restaurants that serve foods from different regions have also thrived in the area. Some of the unique cuisine you might enjoy in those establishments include scrapple, which is made from pork, spices, and buckwheat flour or cider doughnuts, among others. Some of the facilities people can explore to enjoy the unique cuisine include:

  • Banks' Seafood Kitchen and Raw Bar, located on the south Market Street, serves an assortment of fresh seafood. Most visitors rate it highly for serving tasty crab soup, crab cakes, and crabs.
  • Mikimotos, located on Washington Street, specializes in Pan Asian dishes. Visitors rate it highly for its quality Sushi. Another unique offering is the "Hairy Mexican," which is made from fried shrimp and rice. It also has crabmeat wrapped around it then dipped in eel sauce.
  • La Fia Bistro, located on North Market Street, takes a different approach by having an ever-changing menu. They also use locally sourced materials to prepare their dishes.
  • The Melting Pot located on Concord Pike Street offers heated pots of chocolate, cheese, or broth for dipping. It is popular with people because of the wide variety of foods available and the friendly atmosphere, allowing diners personal space to enjoy their meals.

Historic Sites in Wilmington

The long development journey of the city has left many fascinating buildings and other constructions that tell the stories of the city from different eras. They are also great places to spend time while exploring the area. The most notable ones include:

  • The Old Swedes Historic Site boasts of being the oldest standing church whose structure or foundation has never been altered. The construction is unique, starting with rock walls followed by brick additions. It also features hardwood pews and exquisite stained glass windows. The church hosts the Swedish tradition of Lucia once a year, which is celebrated in a candlelit ceremony.
  • Rodney Square is an outdoor area where people sit and enjoy the outdoors. It features the statue of Caesar Rodney, the great American revolutionary. He famously rode 70 miles through a storm on the night of July 1, 1776, to break a voting deadlock that allowed Delaware to join 11 other states in favor of the resolution of independence.
  • The Rockford Tower, which was constructed during the industrial revolution, provides a unique glimpse into the past. For instance, on its side, there is a sundial. The area surrounding the tower is great for hiking, skating, bicycling, or jogging since there are a beautiful park and surrounding hills dotted with caves and huge boulders.

How Does SERVPRO Help Wilmington Business Owners Tackle Fire Damage?

Disasters such as fire can interrupt business activities or reduce a vital structure to ruins in a few hours. Wilmington business operators need viable solutions that can help salvage their operations in the aftermath of fire incidents. SERVPRO provides different services, including cleaning and safeguarding the premises, thus helping the business overcome the effects of large or small fires.

The combustion processes produce various types of residues, which are broadly classified as soot and ash. The residues settle on all surfaces, thus affecting structural materials and contents. It is possible to save some of the items by cleaning them. SERVPRO helps by using regular cleaning or specialized approaches such as ultrasonic cleaning to restore the items affected by fire residues.

Fires may also leave business premises unsecured. For instance, they might create openings when windows shatter or roofs cave-in.  The openings expose the contents held within the premises to weather elements or other risks. SERVPRO technicians help secure the premises, thus saving any salvageable items from further deterioration.

  • Installing roof tarps in case there is a roof cave in to keep out rain, snow, or other weather elements
  • Boarding up walls to seal any opening created by the fire or firefighting efforts
  • Creating barriers inside the building to seal off certain areas, thus shielding items held within from moisture or airborne debris
  • Performing move-outs that relocate vulnerable items to another section of the property or an offsite storage facility.

SERVPRO of Hockessin / Elsmere is an established restoration service that helps lighten the load when Wilmington businesses are affected by fire damage. Call (302) 992-0104 to get the speedy response necessary to counter the effects of a fire loss.

Is it Possible to Save Paintings During Mold Remediation in an Art Studio?

10/5/2020 (Permalink)

Art studio Mold damage in your art studio? SERVPRO can make it "Like it never even happened."

Wilmington Artists Concerned About Art Materials During Mold Remediation.

Wilmington art studio owners know how much time and effort it takes to put together an art studio or gallery. It is a true labor of love and an excellent way to showcase local artists.

No studio owner wants to deal with mold remediation in their Wilmington gallery. Mold can be disastrous for art materials. However, do not despair. Mold remediation is possible in many cases, and SERVPRO is on hand to help.

When should gallery owners contact SERVPRO?

We recommend you contact us as soon as you notice signs of mold. You do not have to see fungal growth – if you notice damp patches on walls, ceilings, or artworks, let us know. Likewise, if you smell a moldy scent, call us. The sooner we arrive, the better the chance of saving your materials. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster, so do not delay.

What does mold do to paintings and art materials?

Unfortunately, canvas and other art materials such as paper or natural brushes make excellent food for mold. The fungus is parasitic and grows by digesting organic materials. Once mold settles on art materials, it can:

  • Cause unsightly black or green patches
  • Damage materials beyond repair
  • Spread throughout your gallery and find new places to propagate

Can paintings be restored after fungal growth?

Restoring paintings requires specialist knowledge and equipment, but it is certainly possible. The tricky part about restoring moldy paintings is that you must try to avoid using chemicals on the painted service. The type of painting makes a difference. It is tough to restore watercolors as any water-based products will cause them to run. Acrylics are a little more robust, and oil paintings are the hardiest of all.

SERVPRO of Hockessin / Elsmere can restore some mold-damaged paintings, especially if the damage is minimal. However, in some cases, you may need to contact professional art restorers, who can:

  • Choose products designed for use on the artwork, which minimize the risk of damage
  • Repaint areas of the picture
  • Restore the canvas, board, and stretchers that support the painting

Our technicians will let you know how much we can do and what results we can get to decide on your next best course of action.

Is it possible to rescue blank canvases?

Yes, depending on the extent of fungal growth. Our technicians can use careful brushing and powerful HEPA vacuums to remove mold from the canvas's surface. We can also use antimicrobial treatments and cleaning products and dry the canvas afterward.

We understand the importance of restoring canvas to its original shape and texture. We will give you an honest assessment of each piece's condition and the likelihood of a favorable outcome.

What about paint and paintbrushes?

Paint stored in properly-closed tins can last for ten years or more, and the container should keep the mold out. However, if you see mold on the paint's surface or the paint smells musty, discard and replace it.

We can treat paintbrushes with a combination of scrubbing and brushing the handles, and using detergent and antimicrobial agents to clean the bristles. We can also tackle other wooden objects such as:

  • Canvas stretchers
  • Backing boards
  • Frames

Can SERVPRO clean the gallery space too?

Yes. When our team arrives at your studio, they will assess the space and contents and draw up a plan of action. The assessment includes testing for moisture and humidity, so we know what we are working with.

We will set up containment around the affected area to contain the mold and prevent spores from breaking off and traveling throughout your studio. We use scrubbing, HEPA vacuuming, dry and wet wiping, and sometimes baking soda blasting to clean walls, floors, ceilings, and crawl spaces. We also place air movers and dehumidifiers to dry your gallery and make it less habitable for mold.

We deodorize everything before we leave to get rid of lingering mold smells. We can use air scrubbers and carbon filters, and we can also wet fog nooks and crannies and place odor-eating pellets around the building.

Will the mold come back?

Because mold is naturally-occurring, we cannot guarantee it will not return. However, you can take some steps to protect your art studio by keeping it dry and free of water leaks and drips. Consider investing in some dehumidifiers – choose a model that displays the humidity level as it dries. Keep your gallery building in good condition, and do not overlook leaks or wet patches.

If the mold does come back, do not attempt to clean it yourself, as this can make it worse. Let us know, and we will assist you.

For help saving your art studio from mold, call SERVPRO of Hockessin / Elsmere at (302) 992-0104.

A Burst Pipe in My Wilmington Factory Left Me Dealing With Water Damage. How Do I Restore it?

8/26/2020 (Permalink)

A sky view of a factory warehouse. When it comes to your livelihood and what keeps your business up and running, add SERVPRO to the list we are ready to keep you in business.

Contact SERVPRO Technicians in Wilmington to Perform Commercial Water Damage Restoration in Your Factory.

It can be a significant setback to have your Wilmington factory shut down because of a water intrusion incident. A non-operational factory cannot make a profit, and even several hours of deal can cost you thousands of dollars. SERVPRO technicians can help you reduce losses and get you back to business quickly.

How do you begin water restoration?

We can begin the process of commercial water damage restoration in your Wilmington factory by inspecting the affected area thoroughly. We have advanced equipment that helps us to check the moisture levels on surfaces. Since water can travel into confined places such as wall cavities, and locker rooms, we can use a thermal imaging camera during the inspection. The device helps us to pinpoint areas where we should concentrate on during the drying process.

What can I do to ensure safety?

Water loss incidents in factories are severe problems for the individual business, emergency services, its staff, and the wider community. The safety of people in the factory is a priority. You can do the following to ensure safety during the water damage mitigation and restoration process.

  • Securing any hazardous or toxic materials
  • Shutting down machinery safely
  • Switching off electric and gas supplies
  • Offering safe access for emergency services

If the water intrusion has caught you unaware, it is essential to notify emergency services about any hazards present in your factory, especially if the rising waters mean that they could become general hazards.

How can you remove the water and moisture?

A majority of factories have an open layout, meaning that water can spread to a wide area of the shop floor quickly. Our team can use industrial-strength pumps to extract the water. Fast water removal can prevent the corrosion of metallic items and damage to the merchandise in your factory. We can also use drying equipment like centrifugal air movers and refrigerant dehumidifiers to restore the contents and structure of the facility to pre-water damage dryness. Our SERVPRO team also provides specialist drying services for delicate equipment and materials.

Once we complete the drying process, we can perform structural and cosmetic repairs. We can help you save money and time handling both the water damage restoration and rebuilding process. Our general contractor's license number is 1992104829.

If a water loss incident has happened in your factory, call SERVPRO of Hockessin / Elsmere at (302) 992-0104 for quick restoration. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Restoring Washrooms during Busy Service with our Commercial Water Cleanup Team In Wilmington

A thriving public service industry can be serving drinks and food throughout the day to hundreds of customers. Your washrooms can be in constant use during a busy service, which can make it tough for staff to conduct regular checks. Faucets that are left on can result in minor flooding, which can be exacerbated by regular footfall, bringing dirt and grime into the area. Sewer blockages can result in the presence of urine or sewage, presenting a health and safety concern for the property manager.

Sometimes water cleanup in your Wilmington business can go beyond the scope of your regular staff or janitorial team. As a business owner, you need a quick response that allows you to continue focusing on your clientele. SERVPRO commercial restoration teams are available twenty-four hours a day should you need professional cleaning services during or out-of-hours.

Our SERVPRO crew chiefs can keep in contact with you throughout the restoration while placing physical barriers or signage to warn customers. In the case of temporary closure, you can trust us to mobilize both the expertise and equipment quickly, keeping the loss of revenues to a minimum. Our process uses industrial cleaning products as well as equipment such as powerful water extractors to ensure that the service is efficient with a minimum inconvenience to the customer.

Restoring a public service industry washroom requires chemical agents that can be effective at controlling both stains and odor since quick services are essential. SERVPRO uses a neutral PH urine odor and stain remover, which uses a combination of natural enzymes with bacteria and is unlikely to cause staining to paintwork, porcelain, or floors. This product is effective on urines, vomit, feces, spilled foods, and many other natural stains. Using a spray washer, SERVPRO can apply it to the problem area as well as carpet fibers or fabrics in the immediate vicinity, bringing damages back under control and letting your business get back to normal.

Restore your business with a minimum loss of revenue. Contact SERVPRO of Hockessin / Elsmere at (302) 992-0104 now.

Why Calling SERVPRO is the Best Decision for Dealing With Mold Damage Situations in Wilmington

12/15/2019 (Permalink)

mold damages bathroom Regardless whether a mold infestation happens in a home or a business, calling team SERVPRO for remediation is the right decision.

Successful Commercial Mold Damage Remediation in Wilmington

No one wants to deal with mold growth in Wilmington. The stakes increase for business owners doing their best to cope with the challenge of microbial infestation in areas where the public visit or employees work. High on the list of concerns are health and safety regulations that evaluate problems like mold growth and abatement efforts when operating licenses are renewed, and premises monitored.

A local business had mold damage on their Wilmington campus, infesting the walls in a restroom. Bathrooms and other areas laced with plumbing lines and higher than average humidity levels are prone to mold growth. Proper mold remediation protocols must be followed in any space. In rooms where the potential for water spills, leaks, and increased relative humidity is elevated, repair of leaks and strict adherence to spill cleanup and water vapor removal via exhaust fans or dehumidifiers is critical. Minimizing moisture is the only sure way to limit mold growth.

The business owner believed the mold growth had been addressed appropriately in the bathroom. Relief turned to dismay when evidence of mold resurfaced. If mold remediation does not follow the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) procedures developed for schools and commercial spaces, the resurgence of mold damage is probable. Improperly corrected mold damage was the reason the business reached out to SERVPRO.

Conventional cleaning methods are not up to the task of clearing mold away. The diluted detergents, solvents, and soaps employed by housekeeping crews or inadequately trained mold technicians often contribute to the problem by adding water that fuels mold growth. Painting over the stains does not solve the problem. Mold continues to grow under paint.

As seen in the picture, a layer of paint covered the previous mold growth near the baseboard but did not prevent a rebound. Signs of the return of mold damage are apparent, including bubbling, discoloring, and peeling of the paint. As soon as the business noted the unsatisfactory results, SERVPRO received the call.

We sent an experienced mold remediation project manager to evaluate the situation. Using moisture meters, crews sketched out the perimeters of the mold colony. Our crew followed the multi-step process mandated by the EPA:

  • Containment of the Affected Area
  • Removal of Mold Organisms and Mold-Infested Building Materials
  • Scrupulous Cleanup of Debris
  • Bagging of Mold and Debris and Lawful Disposal
  • Disinfection with EPA-Registered Products

Our construction division took over the task of repairing and rebuilding areas of the wall damaged by the mold and remediation actions. Holding both a general and a commercial contractor’s license allowed us to manage mold remediation and material restoration from start to finish. Clean inspection reports and the pride of providing clean restroom space to employees, customers, and the public is why SERVPRO ranks near the top of mold remediation service companies in the area.

Business owners need just one consultation to put SERVPRO of Hockessin / Elsmere on their list of reliable mold remediation contractors. Call us at (302) 992-0104 with any questions, and we would be happy to drop by for an assessment.

Heavy Rain Causes Flash Flood Damage to Hockessin Apartments

Extreme weather patterns expose multi-family residential complexes in Hockessin to flooding risks. Even just a few inches of water collecting on pavement acts like a river, delivering overland floodwaters into the main floor and lower levels of an adjacent townhouse development. If heavy rains saturate the ground around the building, those rushing waters join with seepage. As owner or manager of the residential complex, you have multiple tenants depending on you. We can help.

Flood Water Needs Containment

The water causing flood damage in Hockessin apartments is considered Category 3, the most contaminated. Flowing over pavement, gravel, dirt, and grass, it picks up many landscaping and road maintenance chemicals. Organic debris joins in the mix, which can also contain sewage if the storm drains are overwhelmed. As we plan for flood water removal safety, regulations require we collect and contain the fluids for disposal as hazardous waste.

Powerful Professional Pumps and Extractors

When the SERVPRO team arrives, a quick assessment leads to the immediate implementation of a flood damage remediation plan. Our trucks stock multiple pumps and water extractors, put to work to remove as much liquid water as possible. We use thermal imaging technology to locate any hidden water. If necessary, controlled demolition techniques like flood cuts or weep holes release the water for containment. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) training mastered by our managers and technicians stresses accurate moisture measurement as the baseline for structural drying. With all visible water captured and on its way to appropriate disposal sites, we develop drying goals.

Monitored Drying Prevents Secondary Damage

We compare the moisture levels of water-damaged structures with those of similar building materials in unaffected areas of the townhome development. SERVPRO Applied Structural Drying (ASD) technicians use the two sets of data when laying out a perimeter of heated air movers to accelerate evaporation. Excess moisture must exit the wet structure for capture and disposal by our evaporative or desiccant dehumidifiers. Over-drying is not appropriate, so we keep a close eye on periodic moisture meter samplings.

SERVPRO of Hockessin / Elsmere has the equipment and highly-skilled work team you can depend on to return your residential complex to pre-flood condition. Call us at (302) 992-0104 when rain showers turn into tributaries that flood your real estate investment.

Commercial Properties can sustain considerable amounts of water damage through a weekend. If is often times a business will close on a Friday and no one will enter or check the property over a weekend or the extended weekend. When Monday evening came for this business owner he did not know how it happened. In this scenario, a toilet was flushed at the end of the day, on the previous Friday, and the back of the tank never quit running. This meant the water kept coming and flowing into the bathroom, through the bathroom into the hallways and into the offices. This is a picture of our crew waiting approval from the crew chief on the scope of the work. The SERVPRO of Hockessin / Elsmere team is ready to go and just waiting on the sign off.

Make copies of important documents such as deeds and important papers. Keep a copy off site as well. SERVPRO of Hockessin / Elsmere cares about your business and we are here to help.

Fire Extinguishers in the Work Place

10/10/2017 (Permalink)

Office Building Fire Extinguisher Location

Whether working from home or in a large commercial office building, the knowledge of how to correctly and safely use a fire extinguisher and when to use them is something everyone should have. How to operate a fire extinguisher should be displayed somewhere in the office for all employees to see. Here are a list of tips and information on when it is time to use a fire extinguisher:

  • The extinguisher should be clean and without any damage
  • An escape plan has been established and the fire is not blocking the way out of the building
  • All others in the building have been alerted
  • The local fire department has been called
  • Everyone is safe from the smoke and toxins the fire is creating
  • The fire is contained to a single object

Clean Facilities

6/1/2017 (Permalink)

Our Staff in Our Clean Work Place

Having a clean, healthy and safe environment does not take a lot of hard work.  Consistency, proper training and communication is essential in achieving great results.  Having your team come together and identify the vital areas of concern should be first addressed.  Perhaps making a list of things to do daily, monthly, quarterly and annually. Perhaps some of these tasks are divided and rotate. If everyone makes a conscious effort to perform the daily tasks assigned to his/her work area, the outcome will be cleaner and healthier.

Things like taking out the trash, properly closing down the computers, making sure all cords that are not in used unplugged. (this could mean coffee makers, space heaters, radios, fans etc.), securing the office would be examples of daily tasks. Weekly tasks could be wiping down desks and phones, running a quick vacuum of the area, organizing files better and anything else that was identified in the original list.  The same would be true for the quarterly and annual workplace tasks. Some great annual tasks would be fire extinguisher tags being checked, deep cleaning of all carpets, wall and window cleaning and the list can go on.  By communicating what the expectations are and maintaining those things will help reduce frustrations.

The Power of Four

4/25/2017 (Permalink)

Erin, Jackie, Paul and Caitlin

These four individuals are a powerful group.  They think outside the box and came up with some great ideas. They love and take pride in what they do. Within the building industry they are coming up with new and unique ways to improve our relations.  Most recently they tolled out a new plan that has really been working for us.  The amount of Emergency Ready Plans this team has prepared are amazing.  The go into buildings and point out all the potential issues, tag specific areas with cautions and help put together a written plan on what to do if an emergency arises. They pass the message on that SERVPRO is here to help.  They give the customer a binder or thumb drive whichever the customer prefers.  We also now have a mobile app for this as well.
